Where to Advertise Gizmos?

Posted by admin in Thursday, April 16th 2009   under: Advertising and Marketing, Internet and Online Business

Unlike other commodities, techie gadgets and gizmos have short-lived popularity because technology constantly evolves. One day there is this new phone, perhaps the next day there will be a new version of it already. This is why advertising gizmos and a techie gadget is very crucial. It should be able to capture the most attention in just a short span of time.

gizmos

Popular means of advertising gizmos is through online shops. But another alternative is through online forums. With online forums, the members have an established interest on the type of gizmos or just simply on techie gadgets. This interest can be exploited and be able to convince them to buy. Even more, some members of it can provide positive product evaluation that can help promote the product. But of course, there is also that drawback of receiving not favorable product evaluation from other members. But basically, online forums provide testimonial advertisements that cannot be effectively done on online shops because their purpose is to just sell and not directly promote a product.

Also, member of online forums are the potential buyers that are always on the look out for new gadgets. Making the right first impressions to these members could lead to multiple indirect advertising like promotions on their respective websites or blogsites.

Participative View of Power

Posted by admin in Sunday, March 22nd 2009   under: Business Management

The way a business is managed is a factor that greatly affects the success of a company. Managers handle the people in the company; and the way they handle the employees, in turn, affects the company itself. A manager could either follow a participative view or an autocratic view.

A manager following an autocratic view of power follows only his personal scrutiny of things; he does not share his power by accepting the views of the employees under him. On the other hand, a manager who follows the participative view of power is more employee friendly compared to and autocratic manager. He entertains the points-of-view of the employees he manages and the employees are said to be participating in the management of the business. This managerial approach will give the employees an air of importance and in turn, each employee will feel responsible for the company itself. This care for the betterment of the organization will greatly improve the company.

This participative approach in management is useful for many companies (however, it does not imply that it is helpful to all types of companies). For this, it should be noted that managers should always be updated of the best possible managerial approach with respect to the approach’s appropriateness to the business.

The Importance of a Database on a Hotel Business

Posted by admin in Wednesday, February 18th 2009   under: General Business, Technology

In managing a business, there are a lot of functions and factors involved. But one of the key requirements in it is keeping records. There are businesses like hotels that heavily rely on recording their transactions with their customers to perform their business well. This is why databases are very important investments for them.

In a hotel business, keeping track and recording of the volumes of transactions done through the front desk seems to be very tedious. Another complication is when a customer makes an inquiry and finding it out takes a lot of time. All these can be addressed by a database. Typical hotel databases records all the transactions of each client from check in, check out and even the billing aspect. The front desk personnel can easily lookup any customer inquiries in the database or view reports that can help managers monitor the monthly bookings and performance of the hotel.

Another important feature is the ability to view reserved and available rooms for ease of accommodating customers. This prevents unfavorable situations like overbooking which definitely dissatisfy any customer. And for these database features to be fully effective, the management should make sure that the database is constantly updated and assure that all transactions are recorded in it.

Money Saving Tips for your Business

Posted by admin in Thursday, January 22nd 2009   under: Economics, Finance and Money

The global financial crisis that we now experience has reached such staggering downturns that it has pushed even the seemingly stable businesses in the powerful and first world countries like the US and Japan to resort to ‘almost’ desperate measures like closing down some of their offshore accounts, and mass work force lay-offs while some have completely shut down.

If the big wigs and business moguls appear to have considerable difficulty in keeping their heads above the water, what more with the small and medium scale businesses? The challenge is admittedly a million times greater but pause for just a moment, take one deep breathe and try to think clearly –
To weather through this storm, try working with these tips first before considering the more drastic moves:
Optimize your equipment. Make sure all your machines are at their top performance level. It would be a great waste of energy and effort if you do not get the best from your equipment. Milk your production cost with all of its worth, get what you pay for.

save-money

Optimize your work force and save energy cost. Instead of laying off their employees, some companies opted to reduce work days; this way the energy consumption is less. Constantly remind your employees the value of saving on the resources of the company to keep it up and running.

Optimize you product. Pay even greater attention to the quality of your products. Rejects are unacceptable wastes of the company’s time, effort and money.

Measuring Cost

Posted by admin in Friday, December 26th 2008   under: Business Management, Finance and Money

Managing a business to success is already a hard job for there are many things to be assessed and considered. One vital thing that needs to be measured is the cost of production. The cost of producing goods and services in a business is the resources a company allocates for manufacturing them. Moreover, these costs could be classified into two kinds of costs, namely: implicit costs and explicit costs.

Explicit costs are input costs that require an outlay of money by the company; accountants and economists use these costs in measuring profit. On the other hand, implicit costs are costs that do not require any outlay of money by the company; only economists use this on measuring profit. For clarity’s sake, it should be noted that these implicit costs are the opportunity costs of the input that might have been used for other purposes.

An example of this would be the capital of a starting business. Suppose that the capital used in starting a business is $300,000; if the owner has deposited this amount in an account that pays him with a 5% interest rate, the owner would have been able to earn $15,000 a year. In conclusion, this $15,000 the owner should have earned is the opportunity cost of the capital; it is also considered an implicit cost of the business.

Most of the time, these implicit costs are disregarded, however, though it is hard to assume the exact amount of these costs, it is always better that the company be aware of these costs so as to measure not only the accounting profit of the business, but also the economic profit of the business.
